Confluence means independent reasons pointing to the same area. Three versions of the same momentum calculation are not three reasons.
Begin with location
A retracement ratio becomes more interesting when it overlaps a prior breakout area, a well-defined swing, or another price zone that participants have already recognised. Draw the zone before adding oscillators.
Demand behaviour
Location alone is not an entry. Decide what price must do: reject and close back above a level, form a higher low, break a minor countertrend, or satisfy another observable condition appropriate to the timeframe.
Use a three-line hierarchy
- Structure: What directional move and prior level frame the idea?
- Location: Why is this retracement area worth attention?
- Trigger: What new price action must occur before the idea is actionable?
If your journal cannot separate these lines, the chart probably contains decoration rather than confluence.
Preserve the failed case
When price slices through the area, save the chart. Record whether location was poor, confirmation never arrived, or a valid risk-defined setup simply lost. That distinction is more useful than adding another indicator.
